my 2009 anthem of praise

This has been a tough semester, and a roller coaster of a year. While typing this, im laying on my bed, my stomach in pain again, with a doctors appointment to go to later today, and I sit here and remember events like the HBBC YOUTH Winter Retreat, DCLA, PDYM & PDYM SLC, the incredibly amazing things that I’ve gotten to be apart of this semester, along with the not so fun- things like more health problems, more depression, more surgeries, more friends who feel they have no way out but to end their journey much sooner then intended.

This has been an intense year. All along, however, this song has spoken to me in a way I cannot describe. To a guy who deals with self-worth issues and depression, with a scarred past and an unclear future, this music put to words what my heart is screaming (and the first time i heard it… I cried).

In his letter to the church in Ephasus, Paul writes “In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” (Eph. 1:5-6) I hope you caught that- In LOVE he has ADOPTED US into his family FREELY! Why? Because it brings The father pleasure! It brings GOD pleasure to save people like you and me. Just stop and think about that for a moment- it brings God pleasure to save you and me! WOW! Words would cheapen the amazing gift that God has given us. And yet, as an old Parisian Poet once said, “God gave us music that we may pray without words“.

Take a listen to the song, below. It is being done by the Jesus Culture, and Kim Walker. I would love to go on and on about how incredible this song is and how much it has touched me, but still I feel that any attempt at describing it would cheapen it to some degree. Like most interactions with The Holy, it is often better to listen than to speak.

He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane
I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy
When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by Glory
And I realize just how beautiful you are and how great your affections are for me

Oh how he loves us, so
Oh How he loves us, how he loves us so

Yeah he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves

We are his portion and he is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in his eyes
If grace is an ocean we’re all sinking
So, heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way

He loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves
